Car Hit and Run on Muslim Woman in Abbey Wood, Southeast London
The Metropolitan Police are investigating a targeted hit-and-run that occurred on March 8 in London. The attack took place on Harrow Manorway (SE2) at approximately 4:35 PM when a Muslim woman in her 20s, who was wearing a hijab/abaya at the time attempted to enter a parked vehicle when a red car, a possible Honda HRV, swerved intentionally and struck her at high speed from behind. The impact threw the woman over the car's bonnet and onto the pavement several meters away. She was treated by the London Ambulance Service and taken to the hospital with injuries that were determined to be not life-threatening or life-changing. The driver fled the scene immediately without stopping. As of today, no arrests have been made. Detectives have described the incident as a targeted attack. While the Met Police stated they are keeping an open mind regarding the motive, local residents and community groups have expressed fears that it was an Islamophobic hate crime. |
