Re: Car Chase In Russia
A lot of criminals use the old Lada cars because they blend in well and are easy turn into "Q" cars. Over here in the UK a common Mod was to buy a 2-3 year old Lada and strip out the tough old tractor engine (which with a bit of tweeking was a fairly competent but noisy rattlebox) and slot in a FIAT 2litre Twin Cam motor, brakes etc. d Don't forget these cars won many rallies under both the LADA badge and the FIAT badge as the LADA works bought all the machines and tooling from fiat when they stopped production of the hugely popular, easy to work on FIAT 124 which was to become the LADA. It was/is a common practice as the west moved towards cars that needed specialist engineers to work on them the Eastern Bloc still wanted good solid reliable cars that a blacksmith could keep running. The Romanians bought the tooling for the Renault 12 (became the Dacia Denim...so called as the fabric 'denim' was lusted over in the old days of the Soviet dominated east), Yugoslavia the little Fiat 126 (became FIAT 126 bis) and the 600 as well as making the VW Golf (Mk2) under licence. |
