CALIFORNIA | TV Star's Brother Shot by Police

I'll be interested to see his tox results...

NEWPORT BEACH, (May 7, 2025) — The Newport Beach Police Department has released body camera footage of a shooting that left the brother of a former "Real Housewives of Orange County" star dead.

Last month, police fatally shot 45-year-old Geoffrey Stirling, the brother of Lydia McLaughlin, who appeared in both Season 8 and Season 12 of the hit reality TV show on Bravo.

Stirling, who was riding a motorcycle at the time of the incident, was shot after a traffic stop on Pacific Coast Highway near Hoag Hospital Newport Beach.

Police pulled him over after he ran a red light, the video shows.

Stirling then became "uncooperative" during the stop.

In the video posted by the Newport Beach Police Department, you hear the officer telling Stirling to take a seat.

Stirling replies, "I don't care what you're telling me to do."

The officer continues to ask Stirling to sit down.

"The officer issued multiple commands, instructing Mr. Stirling to sit down, but he failed to comply," said Newport Beach PD Sgt. Steve Oberon in the video.

Oberon said Stirling later struck the officer several times in the head then removed the officer's Taser.

"At one point, Mr. Stirling placed the Taser against the back of the officer's head," said Oberon. "The officer was able to break free, and as Mr. Stirling pointed the Taser at him, an officer-involved shooting occurred."

Stirling was taken to a hospital that night, where he was pronounced dead.

"The Newport Beach Police Department remains committed to transparency and accountability in all of its operations," said the department in a statement. "The release of this video is part of our ongoing efforts to keep the community informed and engaged."

Meanwhile, the Stirling family released a statement following the release of the footage, saying it has raised "serious concerns" about the actions of the officer.

"Of grave and specific concern is that the videos appear to show [Stirling] moving away from the officer at the time he was shot six times," read the statement. "The family through their Attorneys plan to file a lawsuit in Federal Court to obtain full answers and seek accountability. Geoff was experiencing a mental health crisis when he was stopped for a traffic infraction. Geoff was unarmed and posed no deadly threat to the officer. The Stirling family expects that all video and audio footage along with every report and shred of evidence related to this deeply disturbing shooting be preserved for presentation in due course as part of the lawsuit the family will be pursuing. The cause of death was blood loss. Despite the presence of multiple officers reporting to the scene, no aid was initially offered. The family remains heartbroken and devastated that Geoff was taken from them in what appears to be an unjustified use of lethal force. Equally tragic is that there may have been other options and tactics available to the officer that he failed to utilize based on his training."

Re: CALIFORNIA | TV Star's Brother Shot by Police

He was a 45-year-old resident of Laguna Niguel, California, and a member of the prominent Newfoundland Stirling family, known for founding Newfoundland Television (NTV).

He was the son of Scott Stirling, CEO of the Newfoundland Broadcasting Company, and the grandson of media pioneer Geoffrey William Stirling.

On April 17, 2025, Geoffrey Shyam Stirling was fatally shot by a Newport Beach police officer during a traffic stop, an incident that has sparked significant controversy and grief, particularly given its timing just six months after the death of his mother, Judy Stirling, from breast cancer.

Described by NTV general manager Lindsey Andrews as “a very positive individual, always willing to learn new things and wanting to contribute to the success of the company.”

Had a brief acting career in the late 2000s and early 2010s, appearing in TV shows such as Fashion House and Wicked Wicked Games.

He attended church every Sunday and supported multiple charities.

He also faced legal issues, including a felony arson charge from an incident on March 21, 2025, with an arraignment scheduled for April 21, 2025.

Sounds like being the black sheep of the family. Bet his family will hire some top lawyer.
