CALIFORNIA: DV Husband Gets Shot in His Front Yard

Husband abuses wife and she calls the cops to solve her problems. Then she doesn't like the outcome...

Quote:
BAKERSFIELD, (April 10, 2024) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office’s Critical Incident Review Board determined the deputies were justified in a shooting on Beardsley Avenue, March 10, 2024, that left a Bakersfield man dead.

The office said deputies responded to reports of domestic violence in the shooting in the 200 block of east Beardsley Avenue in Oildale. Deputies made contact with Cole Jackson Hughes, 53, of Bakersfield, who was armed.

Deputies issued verbal commands to de-escalate for over 20 mins. At approximately 1:35 p.m., deputies fired at Hughes.

Lynn Hughes, Cole’s wife of nearly 15 years, said, “It was an empty pellet gun. There was no exchange of gunfire.”

Hughes was shot multiple times and transported to Kern Medical, where he died the next day.

“They did not try to reason with him,” Hughes said. “They didn’t try to talk to him.”

Only one deputy opened fire during the incident. That deputy was not hurt. Authorities say multiple weapons were found on scene.

On April 4, KCSO’s Critical Incident Review Board examined the use of force in the shooting. The board concluded the use of force in the shooting was determined to be within department policy.

Be glad to get rid off that asshole with his gun and ax. If you call the cops telling he has weapons and he's acting batshit crazy you know the probable outcome.

He was hit by the first shot & started going down, why not squeeze off a few more & keep firing at him.

A single shot will seldom neutralize a threat. We don't have a view from the shooting officer's perspective, but he may have felt that once the subject was down with a single round he could pick up the rifle and engage.

Unfortunately, the cops had to consider the potential threat to citizens who didn't heed warnings and were within range of fire nearby.

Hopefully, someday they will invent StarTrek phasers that render people temporarily unconscious. Until then, cops are stuck with what they got.

Why don’t they shoot these folks in the head? One shot drop instead of center mass body shots!?!

The bottom line is optics...

There are agencies that train officers to shoot two to the body, one to the head. Which is great on paper targets, but totally different on real moving humans at any appreciable distance.

Besides that, larger departments typically have too much political pressure to endorse such methods because it just looks bad.

Although if SWAT is deployed, it will usually be one melon shot by a sniper.
