CALIFORNIA: Deputies Under Fire by AK47

Deputies responded to a man with a gun call. A real shit show ensues.

You are probably better off just watching the full 15min Critical Incident video in order to follow what happened... if not, I've included bodycams from five deputies involved. Tragically, a deputy was run over by a fellow deputy's police car and remains critically injured. Suspect is dead.

SANTA ROSA, (March 15, 2024) — Body camera footage released by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office on Friday afternoon depicts close calls for deputies under fire and ultimately a chaotic moment of tragedy when Deputy Nicholas Dellia is severely injured by another’s patrol car during a March 4 shootout and car chase outside Santa Rosa that ended in the suspect’s death.

Audio from an early morning 911 call — also released for the first time Friday —indicates police were called to Stony Point and Todd roads after a man threatened employees of a nightclub in the rural unincorporated area just south of Santa Rosa.
The man showed a rifle resting in his lap to employees of the club who had ejected him the night before and said he wanted to kill a security guard, according to the 911 caller.

Deputy Joseph Nouguier was the first to reach the suspect, 53-year-old Jose Luis Villaseñor Cervantes, of Santa Rosa. Video shows a rifle round striking the front windshield of Nouguier’s car as he pulls into a parking lot at Todd Road and Standish Avenue, a mile east of the nightclub.

Deputies are seen, in the sometimes shaky and indecipherable footage released Friday, taking cover behind their patrol cars, returning fire and seeking to aid Deputy Giulia Geary, who caught shrapnel in her hand and body armor as Cervantes rained more than 50 shots at deputies from an AK-47. It remains unclear where Cervantes, who was in the country illegally, acquired the rifle.

In one body camera segment, Deputy James Blount calls for cover before taking a rifle out of his car’s trunk and firing back at Cervantes.

After a sustained initial round of gunfire, Cervantes can be seen on Blount’s body camera footage driving away in a white sedan.

Officers give chase. One of them, Deputy Keegan Cutting, does so with his driver’s side window shattered by gunfire.

Minutes later, Cutting catches up with Cervantes in the parking lot of the nightclub where the incident began. Cutting’s footage shows he got out of his car and fired a single shot before getting back behind the wheel to continue chasing Cervantes, who sped north on Stony Point Road.

Cervantes then crashes his car into an empty patrol car along that road.

Deputy Dellia, the driver of that car, was outside attempting to put out a spike strip and stop the fugitive. The deputy’s body camera footage shows him rush away from his car before the collision and then fire repeatedly at Cervantes after the crash.

Cervantes was shot at some point during the gunfight, chase and crash, but autopsy reports indicate the blunt force trauma from his car crash most likely killed him.

Blount unknowingly crashed his car into Dellia, pinning him beneath the vehicle, the videos show. Blount’s body camera video shows him driving and announcing on the radio he spotted the suspect, then cursing as he drives into a roadside ditch before exiting his car with his gun out.

“Who’s this? F---,” Blount says as he sees someone pinned under his patrol car.

The department blurred further body camera footage as deputies pull Dellia from under the car and render medical aid to both him and Cervantes.

Deputies appear to perform CPR on both men. Cervantes was pronounced dead at the scene.

“As of the release of this video, the deputy who suffered a severe head injury is still in the hospital,” Sheriff Eddie Engram said in remarks in the agency’s video. “Please give your thoughts to our deputies and families for a full and swift recovery.”

The Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff’s Association is raising funds for Dellia and his family, saying his wounds include severe burns on his back and brain trauma. Funds raised will support his family while they stay near Dellia during his rehabilitation and also pay for possible alterations to his home to support his recovery.

Re: CALIFORNIA: Deputies Under Fire by AK47

An autopsy conducted on Wednesday indicated that Cervantes sustained non-survivable injuries that included a laceration of the right heart atrium and a laceration of the interior vena cava, both caused by blunt force trauma to the chest.

Of the four deputies injured, one suffered a laceration to the left hand, requiring sutures.

Another was injured by shrapnel to her right hand.

Another suffered projectile wounds to the right lower leg, possibly from a gunshot wound.

A fourth deputy remains in the hospital and has not been able to speak with detectives.

A man killed in a police chase on Monday had a long rap sheet and faced several deportations before his death.

Cervantes has a long criminal history that includes assault with a deadly weapon/not a firearm, willful cruelty to a child, criminal threats, domestic violence, DUI and narcotics arrest. He has also been deported four times since 2009.

Glad he got killed
