Re: CALIFORNIA: Bi-Polar Man Off Meds Stabs Woman - Shot by Police
Do cops ever mace anymore? I’d say Mr. Policeman was not in the right. The guy was being belligerent but not showing aggression towards the officers. I donno. I’m glad I’m not a cop and don’t have to make these kinds of decisions. I still believe they didn’t need to sling led just yet and there were other options to deploy. |

Ignoring lawful orders. Holding deadly weapon, while closing distance with the cops and their unlocked vehicle. Folks can be deceptive setting up for an attack. Right decision |

Re: CALIFORNIA: Bi-Polar Man Off Meds Stabs Woman - Shot by Police
Pepper spray has replaced Mace (CS teargas) for EDC and is only used in limited situations nowadays. Usually in the form of TG grenades on barricaded suspects. Pepper spray has its uses but there are serious drawbacks and cops really hate to use it. First, it is highly flammable. If someone is sprayed, then an officer tries to use a Taser, it can ignite and cause the suspect to go up like a roman candle. Second, it is volatile and frequently the spray will contaminate other officers nearby. Especially if there is any wind or even a mild breeze. And third, it's range is only about ten feet. In the police academy, officers learn the Tueller Drill, also known as the "21 Foot Rule." Essentially, at seven yards anyone can stab an officer before he has time to react to the threat, draw and fire. That's why you see so many officers shoot someone holding a blade at the first instance they move into a threatening posture. This YT video sums up how it all began... |
