Bodycam Shows Police Kill Shooting Suspect After He Pointed a Gun at Officers
Police shot and killed a man Tuesday in Okolona who they say had just shot another man and refused to drop his gun. Officers arrived around 3 p.m. at the Spring Manor Apartments in the 4500 block of Gills Court on a report of the shooting, said Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad. They found a man in the parking lot, just off Preston Highway, who had been shot multiple times. The suspected trigger-puller was still there and armed, Conrad said. Officers told him to drop his gun multiple times, but he did not, the chief said. The officers also used some sort of "less lethal" weapon, though Conrad did not have specifics on what exactly the officers used. Conrad said the man ran toward officers and pointed his gun at them, leading multiple officers to fire, killing him. No officers were harmed. The first man who was shot was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition as of early Tuesday evening. "He was walking around for some time, armed," Conrad said. "He just shot another man. Obviously it could have been much worse. I think the officers on the scene showed great restraint ..." LMPD policy outlines a number of less lethal weapon options, including pepper spray projectiles and shotgun-fired bean bag rounds. Conrad did not know the reason behind the initial shooting, nor did he identify any of the involved individuals. "TD" Killed |
