A Northern Territory man is likely regretting his decision to break into an ATM, after the explosive he used backfired.
CCTV footage from the ATM in the Darwin suburb of Winnellie shows the man light an explosive, before attempting to insert it into the machine.
However the heist did not quite go to plan and he was knocked backwards, losing his thongs and fleeing from the scene.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Karl Day said alarms sounded when the explosion took place and police found the ATM completely destroyed on arrival.
"This behaviour is extremely dangerous and there is absolutely no reward. This person is lucky to have escaped serious injury," he said.
The offender is described to be a male of Caucasian appearance, medium build and at the time of the incident he was wearing dark-coloured knee-length shorts, a dark T-shirt, a dark hat, thongs and a light-coloured shirt over his face.
"Police believe this man may have been responsible for a similar incident on a NAB ATM in Winnellie on 24 December,"
