Blount County Deputy Shooting: Kenneth DeHart Bodycam, TN, February 8, 2024
Blount County Sheriff's Deputy Greg McCowan was shot and killed and Deputy Shelby Eggers was wounded during a traffic stop in Blount County, Tennessee, on February 8, 2024. Eggers was shot in the leg, treated at a hospital and released. Authorities said the driver produced a gun during the stop. The sheriff's office released footage from Eggers' body camera and patrol-car dashcam, edited side by side and shortened for time. It includes the initial contact, a phone call to McCowan, efforts to get the driver out of the vehicle and assistance with a tourniquet. Kenneth DeHart Jr. was arrested at a Knoxville home on February 13 after a five-day manhunt. He pleaded not guilty and was re-indicted on 21 counts in February 2026, including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder; the case remains pending. He remains held without bond. |

Re: Blount County Deputy Shooting: Kenneth DeHart Bodycam, TN, February 8, 2024
The Blount County Sheriff’s Office released Friday the body camera footage in the death of Deputy G. McC. and injuring of Deputy Shelby Eggers. They conducted a traffic stop on Kenneth DeHart on Feb. 8, BCSO officials said. During that stop, things escalated and Kenneth DeHart fired shots at the two deputies, killing McC. and hitting Eggers multiple times in the leg. The subject of a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Blue Alert, Kenneth DeHart was one of Tennessee’s most-sought suspects during an almost five-day manhunt. He was eventually taken into custody on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at a Knoxville home and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Several others were also charged in the case for giving aid to Kenneth DeHart, according to police. Kenneth DeHart’s brother, Marcus DeHart, girlfriend Carrie Matthews and a man identified as Maurice Warren have all been charged with accessory after the fact. The video itself is made up of body camera footage and dashcam footage from both deputies that shows DeHart’s driving before the stop, the stop itself and the minutes after the shooting. The video begins from Egger’s perspective, showing the moments leading to the traffic stop. DeHart can be seen driving ahead of Eggers and crossing into the opposing lane of traffic. During the stop, Eggers speaks to DeHart for several minutes before the confrontation happens. When asked, DeHart tells Eggers he was driving erratically because he was putting his hair up. According to the sheriff’s office, Eggers smelled marijuana in the car as she spoke to DeHart, which prompted her to ask him to step out of the car. DeHart is shown in the video refusing to get out of the car and refusing to allow Eggers to search the car. Instead, DeHart asks Eggers to call in a K-9 to do a scent test on the car rather than searching it. After a back-and-forth between Eggers and DeHart, the video shows McC. arriving on the scene. Once McC. arrives on the scene, he again asks DeHart to step out of the car. After DeHart refuses again, the two deputies are shown trying to drag DeHart out of the car, then using a stun device on him. DeHart can be heard during the exchange asking the two to stop multiple times before he fires on both deputies. DeHart is shown firing at least six times. Five of those shots ring while he is in the car and the deputies are at the driver’s side window. DeHart is then shown firing a final shot at McC. before driving off, saying “I told you [explative].” After being fired on, Eggers’ point of view shows her returning three rounds of fire, then applying a tourniquet to herself and radioing for help. As she is doing this, two bystanders walk into view and try to help Eggers and McC. After a short time, backup arrives on the scene and places Eggers into a cruiser, then the cruiser drives away. McC’s point of view begins when he arrives on the scene. He is shown asking DeHart to step out of the car before the two try to remove him from the car. When that does not work, McC. uses the stun device on DeHart. Seconds later, DeHart fires on McC, and his video feed ends. |

Re: Blount County Deputy Shooting: Kenneth DeHart Bodycam, TN, February 8, 2024
Gotta treat them all like they are armed to the teeth. Over and over, we see that tasers are bullshit, and cannot be depended upon for force protection. Here's my solution: Equip the prowlers with small winch. If a driver refuses to come out, cuff a body part, run the winch cord to the cuff, take cover and winch em out. No more wrestling with drivers who could have guns stashed in a dozen places. |

Good thing the last got tazed by her own partner, or she probably would have got domed at point blank. Who knew shoddy police practices could actually save lives? |

Or they could just back off, and wait for backup instead of trying to prove something. Considering there’s guns everywhere here, our police are the most complacent motherfuckers on the planet! Ntm, they don’t give a fuck about your life unless you’re a cop or related to someone important.

As someone that is a police officer I can honestly say that’s some of the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard. And i’ve heard some pretty dumb shit in my career so far. I’ve arrested and giving citations to more than a few people who are related to fellow officers. With dash cam ,body cams and the general public recording it’s kind hard to play favoritism towards someone just because they are related to you or fellow officer. |

Bro, I’ve been around y’all most of my life. One of my favorite diners happens to be the cop’s favorite hangout too. I’ve heard the way y’all talk when you think we’re not listening. Y’all don’t give a fuck about us, then of course when you run one of us over in a crosswalk on your way to kicking ass, we’re of “limited value”. I do appreciate the time you took to come in here and defend the fraternity, but I’d trust my life in the hands of a Crip more than y’all. Sorry |
