Aurora Officer Fatally Shoots Teen Suspect Outside Business
At 7:33 p.m. on September 18, 2025, Aurora 911 received a call from a business at 290 South Havana Street. The caller said he had a 9 mm handgun, was going to open fire inside the business, and was waiting for officers so he could shoot at them. He said the gun was loaded and concealed in the left pocket of his sweatshirt. After the call ended, a 911 call taker called back and reached an employee, who said the suspect had left the store and was standing outside. Three Aurora officers arrived and found the suspect near the gas pumps. The officers announced themselves and ordered him to show his hands. He ignored commands and walked toward them with his hands in his pockets. One officer fired four 40 mm less-lethal rounds, striking him several times, but they had no effect. The officers moved around the corner of the business for distance and cover. The suspect then chased them around the corner with one hand still concealed. One officer fired his gun, fatally striking him. Officers performed lifesaving actions until medical responders arrived. The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office identified him as a 17-year-old male, but he was not named because he was a minor. The involved officer was placed on paid administrative leave.
