Assault on cop That Led an Officer to Shoot & Kill a Suspect on the Centennial bridge

Davenport police have released details about the incidents that led an officer to shoot and kill a suspect on the Centennial Bridge over the Mississippi River.

Police said Friday night that officers responded shortly after 11 a.m. to a call from a cafe that serves meals to the needy, and
found that a volunteer had been hit in the head by a man identified as 39-year-old Steven Mallory of Davenport.

An officer spotted a man matching Mallory's description on the bridge, and attempted to stop him, but failed.

Police said the officer used a Taser on Mallory, but the suspect attacked him and knocked him to the pavement and bit him in the face.

During the struggle, the officer shot Mallory.

Both men were taken to Genesis West Hospital,where Mallory was pronounced dead.

The officer needs plastic surgery.

Mallory is dead, but prior to dying, he was able to chew the officer out.

All of this could have been avoided if the cafe employee had served the extra bacon Mallory was asking for. Isn't it obvious the guy was hungry, hence why he punched the employee out of stomac frustration. When he saw the cop, you can almost tell he's mumbling: Hmmmmm, ham!

I think he should have shot him in the head. He didn't do what the officer said and then attacked him.

So let me guess in the nextfew months the bad guys family will sue the PD for excessive force and wrongful death of the loving and caring son who never was in any trouble before.

Not a good idea to mess with an Iowa cop along the Mississippi River or the Iowa State Patrol. These guys believe in going home and we won't let any cop get disciplined here that defended themselves.
