SAPULPA A California man was arrested after a high-speed chase along Interstate 44.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop on a tan Nissan SUV at I-44 and 193rd East Avenue after seeing the driver passing along the shoulder.

The driver refused to stop and led troopers on a chase along the interstate that reached speeds higher than 100 mph.

Police were able to deploy spike sticks and flatten his rear driver’s side tire. He slowed down enough for police to deploy the pit maneuver, and he hit a guardrail.

The chase ended near the Turner Turnpike’s Sand Springs and Sapulpa exit, but not before the man rammed into the right side of an OHP patrol SUV.

During the pursuit, when police would get close he would drive more erratic.

The man, Rendon Enrique Torres, 22, was arrested, and during a search of the SUV troopers reported finding several cellophane-wrapped bundles of marijuana.

Torres was booked at the Rogers County Jail on drug trafficking, eluding and assault with a dangerous weapon complaints.
