A thug pointed a gun in a woman’s face during a terrifying armed robbery at a Merseyside chippy.

CCTV captured the masked man walking in to George Gerry’s takeaway, in Bootle, on Monday night and calmly aiming the semi-automatic pistol at the 25-year-old woman stood behind the counter.

When the shop assistant asked “are you messing?”, he shouted back “open the till now or you will get hurt”.

He added: “Don’t be messing me around. Hurry up.”

The gunman was accompanied by a second thug armed with a knife and the female staff working behind the counter had to give up their takings.

When the money was handed over to the raiders, the gunman said “thanks love” before sprinting out into Aintree Road as staff hit the panic button.

Detectives linked the incident to a second armed robbery half an hour earlier at Spar, in Sefton Road, Litherland.

Chip shop owner George Chrisokhou, 46, decided to release the shocking CCTV footage to the ECHO to take a stand against the criminals who terrified his staff.

He said: “I am proud of the way my staff handled the robbery.

“I will now be boosting security in my chippy, with improved CCTV coverage and security tags for each member of staff on duty.”

The family business, which is popular around Bootle, was founded by George’s dad, Gerry Chrisokhou, in 1959.

Detective Inspector David Keegan, of Sefton CID, said: “We would appeal to anyone who saw three men either running or acting suspiciously in the area between 9.30pm and 10pm, to contact us.”
