GILBERT, (April 12, 2024) — A man who was reportedly wearing a ballistic vest and was armed with two guns was shot by Gilbert Police on Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2024.

The incident happened near Greenfield and Knox roads, the department said, around 2 p.m. Officers were searching the area after callers reported seeing someone who was armed.

Initially, they didn't find the suspect, but eventually, he was spotted inside a car in a nearby residential neighborhood.

When the suspect got out of his car, police say he was armed with a handgun and a rifle. He was reportedly wearing a ballistic vest.

"He started approaching the officers and officers then went ahead and provided commands, and he did not listen to the commands and the officers responded to the threat. After being shot by police, the suspect then shot himself in the head with his own weapon. He was pronounced dead on scene," police said.

The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Brett Shanahan.

No officers were injured.

The Stanford study, using functional brain imaging, found that civilian PTSD patients with altered neural circuit activity in the ventral attention network (VAN) in the brain had poor outcomes to prolonged exposure therapy. Whether this pattern of brain circuit abnormality is over-represented in those suffering from military service–related PTSD remains to be studied.

I have no experience taking shrooms. Don't laugh — I know it might sound counter intuitive, but interacting on DR has actually done a lot to help desensitize my PTSD. That and the companionship of my trusty dogs have been the most therapeutic treatment I've experienced...
