Would you be able to detect a replica handgun that only shoots blanks from 10 ft away or would you assume it's a real gun and respond accordingly when someone raises it and points it at you?

My point wasn't that it's detectable at a distance, I was pointing that playing samurai and dying doing it while holding a shit replica is really a ridiculous way of dying .
The rest of my comment addresses indeed the way the cops dealt with the situation (horribly)
