On March 1, 2026, APD responded to multiple 911 calls about a shooting outside Buford's at 700 West 6th Street in Austin. APD officers and Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services arrived within 57 seconds and found multiple people who had been shot.

A black Cadillac SUV was traveling southbound on Rio Grande Street when it pulled alongside Buford's. The driver began shooting a semi-automatic handgun into a crowd standing outside the bar, and several people were struck.

The SUV continued westbound on West 6th Street and parked near the intersection of West 6th Street and Wood. The suspect got out armed with an AR-15 rifle, fired at a pedestrian and struck them, then walked back toward the bar.

As more officers arrived, people at the scene directed them to the suspect's location. Officers moved bystanders to safety and set up a perimeter. At 2:03, three officers located the suspect near West 6th Street and West Avenue. Other officers gave first aid to victims, including applying tourniquets.
