Alexander Hanzha, Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs Robbery Defendant, Bruised in Custody
Alexander Hanzha, also known as Oleksandr Hanzha, was the third defendant in the Dnepropetrovsk maniacs case in Ukraine. He was convicted of two counts of armed robbery stemming from a March 1, 2007 incident in Kamianske, then named Dniprodzerzhynsk. A court found him guilty on February 11, 2009, and sentenced him to nine years in prison. He did not appeal and was released in April 2019 after serving the full term. The case became known online as "3 Guys 1 Hammer" after a murder video recorded by killers Viktor Sayenko and Igor Suprunyuk. Hanzha did not appear in that video and took no part in the killings. The clip of Hanzha shows him seated alone on a chair against a plain wall, with dark bruising around both eyes. He leans over a sheet of paper with a pen. No second person or act of violence is visible. |
