Albuquerque Police Lapel Camera Video of Deadly Shooting

The Albuquerque Police Department released Officer Matthew Fisher's lapel camera video from the Tuesday police shooting of John Okeefe.

About a minute after originally arriving on scene, Fisher gets out of his car, his service rifle at ready, and is heard yelling at Okeefe, "Show me your hands! Show me your hands!"

As he approaches Okeefe, he identifies himself as an Albuquerque police officer and repeatedly tells him to "stop."

15 seconds after getting out of his vehicle, and after he has shouted multiple commands, the first shot is heard.
It is unclear exactly who fires the shot, but at least 14 shots are fired afterwards.

The shooting takes place in a span of less than ten seconds.
"Male subject is down," Fisher says over the radio as officers swarm the scene.
Fisher sounds distraught seconds later as the gravity of the situation sets in.

"We fucking shot him," he yells. "Fuck, fuck, fuck!"
"Why would he do that?" he asks aloud as other officers ask him if he's okay.

Breathless, he responds, "I'm okay; I'm okay."
Officers are seen cutting off the bulletproof vest they say Okeefe was wearing at the time, and there appears to be a weapon at his side.
The lapel camera video ends as officers are directed to get together with Officer Fisher for debriefing.

Police say they originally responded Tuesday to the 2000 block of San Mateo NE after a caller said there were two men acting suspiciously and there were what appeared to be stolen goods nearby.

APD says responding officers took one of the men into custody without incident, but that Okeefe ran from police.
Police chased him on foot; they say he first fired shots at officers near Quincy and Constitution, but officers did not return fire. Police say Okeefe continued eastbound across San Mateo, when he fired at officers again.

APD says officers returned fire that time, hitting and killing Okeefe.
Police say he was wearing a bulletproof vest and had a .45 caliber Ruger Vaquero on his person when he was shot. Police say both the gun and bulletproof vest were stolen from a Bernalillo County sheriff's deputy's home on Monday, Jan. 12.

APD identified the two officers involved in the shooting as Fisher and Officer Michael Oates.
