Aftermath of Stabbing a 66 Year Old Woman at Atlanta Train
Oakland City. 25-year-old John Elijah Matthews has been officially charged with murder following the brutal, unprovoked stabbing of 66-year-old Margaret Swan aboard an Atlanta MARTA train. The horrifying incident occurred in broad daylight around noon on Saturday, May 30, as the train approached the Oakland City Station. Matthews walked up to Swan while she was sitting alone and, without any provocation, cut her throat before stabbing her 18 to 20 times. Terrified witnesses watched the scene unfold. Matthews stayed beside the victim until the train pulled into the Oakland City Station. He stepped onto the platform holding the knife, where waiting MARTA Police intercepted and arrested him immediately. Margaret Swan, a beloved mother, great-grandmother, and former Atlanta Public Schools employee, tragically died at the scene despite emergency life-saving attempts. Matthews is currently being held without bond at the Fulton County Jail on charges of malice murder. He has waived his initial court appearance and has been permanently banned from all MARTA properties. Official arrest warrants list Matthews as having no permanent address or phone number, indicating that the 25-year-old was transient or experiencing homelessness at the time of his arrest. The tragedy has sparked heavy scrutiny from transit riders and Swan's family regarding system safety, prompting MARTA to immediately step up security measures and enforce six-day officer workweeks ahead of the upcoming World Cup. |

And to think this guy will get three meals a day and free room and board for how many years?   In a clear case of malice murder he should be put in front of a firing squad one minute after his verdict is handed down.  |
