50 Years Prison Sentence After This Police Chase and Crash
On Monday, April 4th, 2022, at approximately 2:53PM dispatch received information from Fort Smith Police about a wanted vehicle involved in an aggravated robbery. They provided the description of the vehicle which was a white 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. Sgt. Roy Moomey sated that the suspect vehicle had driven into the State Police Headquarters parking lot with a Fort Smith Police unit behind it with its emergency lights on.Sgt. Moomey had been in the building and ran out to his unit and pulled out behind the vehicle and FSPD unit. Sgt. Moomey stated that he was behind the vehicle with his emergency lights on and the vehicle was not stopping. As soon as the went from the two lane to a four lane, Trooper First Class Bass began to get in position. As he was doing this, the driver suddenly turned to the right and struck TFC. Bass in the front left of his patrol unit. The suspect then struck a culvert which launched his vehicle into the air. The vehicle came back down and went through a fence and continued rolling. The suspect went through another fence causing about $2000 in damage. Trooper Bass left the roadway due to the impact. His unit became air born as well and struck an embankment. His unit flipped and came to rest on its top. Trooper Price and Sgt. Moomey went to the suspect vehicle and ordered the driver out. The driver exited the vehicle and was ordered to the ground. The suspect refused to place his hands behind his back and had to be subdued by Trooper Price and Sgt Moomey. Trooper Bowman went to Trooper Bass who was still in his seat belt, upside down. His door had to be forced open and he was cut from the seat belt and got out of the vehicle. EMS arrived and checked on the suspect who refused treatment and transport. Trooper Bass was transported to the hospital with a possible head injury. The vehicle was verified stolen through the Arkansas Crime Information Center. Dispatch confirmed that Blasingame was the suspect in an aggravated robbery of the truck. Cpl. Elmore transported Blasingame to the Crawford County Jail and booked for the following charges. Felony Fleeing in a Vehicle. Theft by Receiving. Battery 1st on a Law Enforcement Officer. 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. Criminal Mischief 2nd. Leaving the Scene of a Non-Injury Crash. Reckless Driving Causing Physical Injury. Suspect was sentenced to 50 years in prison. |
