A 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion he took photos up women's skirts at a Target department store in Sherwood faces new accusations Thursday after police seized his home computer and found images of child pornography, police said.
Security staff at the Target store, 21365 SW Baler Way, discovered surveillance footage of a man kneeling behind unsuspecting women and using a cell phone to snap photos under their skirts about 4 p.m. Wednesday, said Capt. Jim Reed, a Sherwood Police Department spokesman.
They called police when the man returned.
Matthew William Navaie of Sherwood was arrested about 4:30 p.m. and booked into the Washington County Jail on accusations of invasion of personal privacy, a misdemeanor.
Investigators seized Navaie's cell phone and computer and found images child pornography images on the computer.
Reed said the images were unlike the photos taken at the Target, and that they definitely depicted minors.
"This isn't a gray area," Reed said. They're photographs of children, children of such an age that there is no uncertainty that they could be over 18."
Sherwood police say they do not know the source of these images.
Navaie now faces four felony counts of contributing to the sexual abuse of a minor.
Investigators released a portion of the video Thursday afternoon in hopes that one of the unidentified victims would come forward.
Update :
2011 A Washington County grand jury indicted Navaie on six counts of first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse and two counts of invasion of personal privacy, according to court records.
As part of a plea deal, Navaie in February pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse and one count of invasion of personal privacy, Washington County Deputy District Attorney Kevin Barton said. His other charges were dismissed.
As a result of the investigation into Navaie, his wife, Lucille Navaie, 21, was charged with nine counts of encouraging child sex abuse, Barton said.
Her trial is set for May.
Sentence: Matthew Navaie was sentenced in February to three years five months in prison, with three years post-prison supervision, Barton said.
He'll have to undergo an evaluation and recommended sex offender treatment, Barton said, and he cannot have contact with minors or use computers. Navaie also must register as a sex offender.
