20 Yo Stolen Bmw Driver Arrested After Police Chase Reaching Speeds of 90mph

James Poole, 20, was sentenced to 22 months in jail and handed a three-year driving ban after leading police on an eight-mile car chase through the busy streets of Hampshire.

The chase, which reached speeds of 90mph, only came to an end when Poole crashed the stolen high-powered BMW 3 series into the back of a school bus.

The pursuit began when an unmarked police car spotted the BMW weaving in and out of lanes and undertaking cars on the M3.

Police signalled for the car to stop but Poole sped off the motorway, driving at high speeds on one of Eastleigh's busiest roads.

Southampton Crown Court heard how Poole jumped traffic lights, crossed white lines and endangered the lives of fellow motorists during the lengthy pursuit.

The court was also shown a video taken by a police dashboard camera that showed the defendant dangerously speeding through traffic, driving on the wrong side of the road and forcing oncoming traffic to pull over to avoid a collision.

Police driver PC Mark Bailey and colleague PC Tony Flatman pursued the reckless driver for around eight miles, providing a running commentary to the police control room as they sped through Hampshire.

The stolen BMW also contained passengers, who can be seen bolting from the car following the collision with the school bus. Poole was found in the driver's seat and arrested.

The defendant admitted driving the stolen BMW without insurance or a license and driving dangerously. He also admitted to stealing another BMW on a separate occasion.

On top of his custodial sentence, Poole, of no fixed address, was banned from driving for 3 years.
