At 10:46 p.m. on Tuesday November 4th Lakeshore OPP responded to an attempted robbery at the One Stop Convenience store at 333 Notre Dame Street in Belle River, Lakeshore. The Essex OPP Street Crimes Unit also attended to assist with the investigation.
An investigation revealed that two persons entered the One Stop Convenience store around 10:45 p.m. at the same time.
One stood at the door described as wearing a white hoodie sweatshirt with a dark stripe box pattern on it, wearing dark pants with a red bandana over their face.
The other suspect entered the store.
This person was wearing a dark coloured hoodie with a white or grey box pattern on it.
They also had on blue jeans and black running shoes possibly with white trim on them and a red bandana over their face.
This suspect entered, threw a duffle bag at the male clerk and stated something to the effect of “put the money in the bag.”
The suspect then moved towards the counter with what appears to be a handgun (imitation or real - it is unknown at this time) in their right hand.
The clerk threw a book at the robber and picked up a piece of 1×3 he had behind the counter. Both suspects immediately fled the store in an unknown direction.
The blue duffle bag that was left at the scene had “Sears” written on the side of it.
The OPP identification Unit collected evidence from the scene.
It is believed the suspects left the store and fled on foot in a northeast direction towards Eleventh Street.
Street Crime members searched the area. A pair of women’s size 7 black Puma shoes with white trim wee located in a front yard on Royal Crescent.
They were seized as possible evidence and sent to the OPP forensic unit.
Suspect Information
Suspect #1 - Stood at the door of the store. Between 5′ 5″ tall and 5′ 8″ tall wearing a white hoodie with a dark coloured box pattern on it, with dark coloured pant and dark shoes. Also had a red bandana over their face.
Suspect #2 - Entered store and demanded money from clerk. Approximately 5′ 5″ to 5′ 8″ tall, wearing a dark coloured hoodie with a white or grey box pattern on it, jeans, black shoes, and white socks.
This person had a red bandana over their face. This person was described as having a young male’s voice by the clerk.
It is believed by the actions of this person when they entered the store that it is probable that they had a handgun (real or replica).
The person raised their right hand up in front of them, holding and pointing something at the clerk.
