It's not just fucking around with petrol...you're using one of the most feared and effective weapons of WWI and WWII. In fact, flamethrowers are so devastating, most, if not all, countries got rid of them years ago. And secondly, With all due respect, America is undoubtedly a more dangerous country because of the amount of guns and the fact that they are readily available to any Tom Dick or Harry. Having freedom to own a firearm is one thing, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

I respect most Americans opinions about gun culture and it's a shame that there are a few psychos that ruin it for the rest of the responsible gun owners.

You could say they same about knives over here tbh. Anyone over the age of 18 can go and buy a big fucking 12" kitchen knife, and 99% of them will use them in the kitchen like normal people, not on people like the other 1% of wannabe gangsters, but Britain is seen as having a knife crime culture. But you can't exactly just stop selling knives. People need them for chopping up their food etc.

The only purpose a gun has is to inflict serious bodily harm on another person apart from hunting and range shooting, and to make you feel like Bruce Willis in Die Hard 1, and if there were no guns for the psychos to buy, people wouldn't need guns to protect themselves against the psychos with the guns. At the least much stricter gun control laws should be in place so only competent people can own guns for legitimate reasons.. e.g - They live up in the mountains and don't wanna get fucked by a bear, or they go hunting during season. Not because:

"YEAH! I'm 18 now bitches! Ima gone get me some guuuns!"

"What for?"

"To protect myself against everyone else with guns!"

I'm not trying to come across as racist or a know-it-all here but coming from a country where you just never see a gun it all just seems a bit...... 19th century?

I dont own a gun, i dont even like guns.. they dont do anything to me... i dont get a boost or thrill out of thinking i have one nor do i feel safer or protected with one...... But i like knowing that if the shit hits the fan and the government turns against its people as history has demonstrated many times, it is nice to know the people can form militias to keep the government in check. but the idea of killing someone... even in self defense .. just killing someone.. is something that i dont wish nor want to comprehend.. Typical Brit. You can't understand and I'm too tired to explain it. The private ownership of firearms is how we gained our independence from England. Guns are something that you never need...right up until you do...then nothing else will work quite as well. Just remember, free men own firearms...subject's do not. In the first part of WWII when it looked like England was going to be invaded, your government begged individual Americans to loan their spare firearms so that England could defend herself from the Nazi hordes. England had to beg, because she had forbid her subjects from owning firearms and when the shit hit the fan...that's all she could do. I'm a retired police officer and I've carried a handgun on a daily basis for over thirty years and still do. That little gun doesn't make me feel any different than I do without a handgun...I wear it for the safety of myself, my family, and my community. Why you Brits think everybody who owns a gun wants to be a cowboy amazes me. You guys think you're so damned much more enlightened, but when Hitler was breathing down your neck, you sure realized how handy a firearm can be...and were forced to beg for something that should have been there in the first place. Then after WWII you immediately forgot the lessons learned and continued to forbid guns. How lame. The Jews did the same thing...if they'd armed themselves like the handfull of Jews did in the Warsaw Ghettos then the Holocaust wouldn't have seen the numbers it did. Did they learn anything...only begrudgingly and only in Isreal. The Jews are still the most fervent group of anti-gunners in America...you'd think theyvwould have learned from what happened...but they didn't. I'm sorry that really was just a joke and no I'll intent was meant...it was just too good of a line not to use. I'm certainly no UK or Brit hater. In fact, as a history buff, I completely understand how our two countries are historically and presently linked and forever entwined...and that's a good thing. I'm very proud that the US was able to help out during both world wars...you guys were the tip of the spear initially and bore the awful burden of nightly bombing and death. Neither England nor the US could have defeated the Axis alone...and neither one of us can defeat the terrorists without the other.

I tease about the gun thing...but it's a difficult cultural thing for an average Brit to understand. I think you'd almost need to live here for a few years to really understand our love of guns. Like driving on the wrong side of the street and eating mash, it's an acquired taste. But it doesn't mean we're all hell bent to be cowboys or action heroes. Have been through a few gunfights over my career, I can tell you I want nothing more than to never shoot anyone again. It's just too much stress and grief.

Flamethrowers aren't banned for military use but are a PR nightmare that have a very limited use on the modern battlefield. Other weapons do a better job and are much more effective. This is why they are no longer used in warfare. They are, however, still in use by civilians for non death by bbq applications.
Flamethrowers are occasionally used for igniting controlled burns for land management and agriculture. For example, in the production of sugar cane, where canebrakes are burned to get rid of the dry dead leaves which clog harvesters, and incidentally kill any lurking venomous snakes.

Flamethrowers are cool, i built a cheap one when i was 12 out of a plastic supersoaker water pistol. It was dangerous and i don't recommend doing it.
