Absolutely ridiculous, surely there should be safety systems in place to completely prevent this from happening, the cost of using ski lifts is so high that they should at least be using a reputable company to install it, guess not x

Skiers at a resort in Georgia, the former Russian republic, got more excitement than they bargained for after a ski lift went haywire — and it was all caught on video.

According to Russian news outlet Pravda Report, an eyewitness at Gudauri Ski Resort said an operator caused the mechanism to malfunction, sending it in reverse at double the normal speed. Another person claimed the chairlift turned into a ‘meat grinder’ due to a power failure.

In footage posted to Instagram, resort-goers can be seen flying through the air as a chair pileup occurs in the turnaround at the bottom of the mountain.

Other individuals who jumped off before reaching the mangled wreckage fared better but still suffered leg injuries, reports Pravda Report.

It reportedly took crews up to two minutes to bring the machinery to a stop as those nearby tended to the wounded.

A statement from the Mountain Resorts Development Company of the Ministry of Economy of Georgia says eight people were injured in the ordeal. Incredibly, none of the injuries are considered serious.

What was supposed to be a fun and relaxing holiday on the Georgian slopes turns into a nightmare for these tourists when a Ski lift malfunctions in what is known as a “rollback”. Although no deaths were reported, several people were were injured either from jumping from the speeding lift cars or being flung off at the point of collision. Video of the accident can be seen following the link. Photos of one victim can be seen attached.

A chairlift at a ski resort in the country of Georgia malfunctioned on Friday, causing panic and chaos as passengers were hurled from their seats at high speeds.

Onlookers posted videos of the violent scene as the incident unfolded at the Gudauri Ski Resort, located in the south-facing area of the Greater Caucus Mountain Range.

The incident left at least 11 people injured, with eight hospitalized in stable condition, Nino Mamaladze, a Georgian ministry of health official, told ABC News.

Images of the accident’s aftermath show a pile of mangled carriers near the chairlift terminal’s base.
