Apparently it is possible to use a fob to remotely start your Lada Niva. However, you should not leave it parked in gear, otherwise it tends to drive away with a demolition poltergeist at the wheel...

There's supposed to be a safety feature there that engine will not start if gear is not in Park for AT or Neutral for MT. Not to mention some models that needs brakes to be engaged before you can start it.

Yeah, shift interlock was not required in the US until like 2010 so I can imagine an old Russian car does not have it.
