Re: Not the Best Time for the Power to Go Out
hahaha, Wonder who caused it. One year working as a welder in NASSCO shipyard I walked over to my welding machine to adjust the amps a bit. It was an old style grid box with top vents for heat. Some welder had left a bent rod stub on the top of the housing. I felt like it might be a hazard and I reached out with my gloved hand to take it off the machine. My gloved finger touched it and the rod fell inside the machine. There was some arcing inside with sparks shooting out then it got way worse with a spray of sparks out the front and the machine just died, an instant later a nearby power junction box began shooting out sparks and flame about twice the size that shot out my machine. Then that stopped and a whole row of machines went dead. Then a much larger box further away that supplied the whole area began shooting out a massive spray of sparks and smoke. That whole area of the shipyard went dead. A coworker standing next to me who had seen the whole thing start up said in a low awed voice, "Don't say anything, just don't say a word because we have NO IDEA what happened!" Our whole crew spent the rest of the morning doing clean up and finally they found something else for us to do while they were scratching their heads wondering what caused the meltdown. |
