Tbf it's only the British part of Ireland (Northern Ireland, if ya don't know your history lol) where the accents are truly unbearable. Belfast being the worst. Like I said before, in the Republic of Ireland, the further south you go the easier the accent is on the ears. It's the same with mainland Britain too if I'm honest. Down south, most of the regional accents are a lot more tolerable, whereas when you start venturing up to the midlands, north Wales, northern England and *shudder* Scotland... the accents become more and more repulsive. Funny thing about The UK and Ireland, that. You can go 25 miles down the road and the accent is completely different.  |

Just for comparison, here in the US, you need to go at least a couple hundred miles N/S/E/W to hear distinguishable differences in accent.

Yeah, it's huge. As a lad, my family made a point to go to all 50 states. We bagged the continental-48 within a decade; it took two more decades to bag AK and HI. My paternal Great-Great Grandfather was Welsh. He was a "heavyweight" troubleshooter for the anthracite mines in the anthracite mines of SW PA. But I never heard a word he uttered with my own ears. So I'm a Czech-Welsh bastard who grew up in rural nowhere, but I'd love to hear it. :S |
