Members of the fraternity of St. Mary of Loreto carry a statue of the Virgin Mary during an Easter procession through the streets of Sulmona in Abruzzo in the center of Italy on Sunday. The traditional Easter procession is called the "Madonna che scappa," or the running Madonna. As the participants run to the statue of the resurrected Christ on the other side of the square, doves are released. According the the centenary tradition, the direction followed by the doves becomes a good or bad omen to the local people for the harvest.
