Manhole lids are not supposed to be smaller than the manhole for a reason. |

Insufficiently large lid Double Fail, here: manhole lids used to be square and other shapes, long ago they were changed to round to keep vandals from dropping them into the hole diagonally.  |

Every round manhole cover I’ve ever seen has a lip that sits inside the pipe while it has an inch or larger lip that covers to the outside edge of that pipe. That in itself makes it too large to fit inside the hole that it’s covering.  |
