Re: How Not to Drive an Elevated Work Platform from a Barge
We refer to them as "ManLift"s. I used one on a small barge while working on a helicopter platform for a jack up rig. A supervisor noticed I was no longer centered and had me recenter the lift with the admonition to keep the lift centered in the barge. The barge came close to tipping far enough to swamp the manhole which was open. Still the lift was damaged when a large oil tanker went by on the waterway and created a wake heavy enough to cause my lift to bob up and down a couple feet. This guy should of been wearing a safety harness according to OSHA rules. They also should of provided a ramp to make the transition from barge to dock easier. Mine was lifted on and off with a crane. Much safer.
