i have heard about "compression jackets" for treating anxiety and panic in dogs....i wonder if the harness is causing a similar result in the gato

I think you're right.
Many of them hate harnesses first, most will get used to them though.

Looks more like a helplessness response. The pressure behind the forearms and in the axillae/armpits probably freaks cats out a bit the first time they wear a harness, and they just flop.
My cat, however, did not have this response. Put a harness on him, he just carried on with life completely unfazed by it.
