New Zealand, A West Coast daredevil was zooming down the Grey River (NZ) when his boat hit a pole at full speed.

Greymouth man Kieran Wisdom was on a fishing trip when he raced the boat down the river, darting from one side to the other spraying water at speed.

He started to turn the vessel and drive towards his friend, who was filming the scene from the river bank, but as he approached the edge of the water he failed to slow down before he crashed straight into a wooden beam.

The 2-metre-tall pole stuck out of the water and crushed the front of the boat on impact.

The vessel looked to be destroyed but Wisdom, who had walked away relatively uninjured, had returned with with a group of friends and a bag of supplies to patch the boat up later that day.

Kiwi ingenuity struck and the men used a roll of duct tape to plaster a "for sale" poster over the giant hole.

"We went down [to the river] with tape, taped it up and then put a sign over that and a bit more tape, then he drove it back across Grey River, sweet as," said a friend, who did not want to be named.

He said Wisdom had not pulled the stunt on purpose and the boat was now "good to go".

Despite all the damage to the structure, it still worked fine.
