It wasn't 'stuck'. Elevators move on worm gears so free falling is almost impossible. I'm guessing they just broke it's drive system so they could see it be destroyed.

being an elevator guy myself, it looks like they were just taking the car off of "safety" but yet there were no cables on the overhead shiv and basically they were probably just ripping out the old stuff and wanted to have fun at the same time. Although that dude that was hanging on the rail releasing the car is fucking nuts.  |

People always say elevators can't fall down like this cuz they have a special mechanism to get stuck if smth is faulty, but I hear every year about such things... ok those may mostly be old elevators but wtf.. i prefere to take the stairs.
