The drunk's system is slowed down so much that he/she doesn't get hurt badly or killed.

I know of a case where a guy in his early 20's was out of it for two or three days and woke up like nothing happened.

A former co-worker once told me, "God looks out for those who cannot take care of themselves."

I'm not getting into a religious discussion, but, seems unfair for the innocent victims of MVAs and drunken rampages.
