Can You Pass This Los Angeles Unified School District Math Assessment Exam?
Greetings. This is a math test currently given out by LAUSD to assess your math skills. See how well you would do. I got an 83 the first time around. I was told that I needed a 90 or above. After a few minutes I wondered how come I am being graded on an assessment test. Why do I have to get over 90 percent. It's to access is it not. Should there be a pass of fail on an assessment? What do the first 3 questions have to do with math ability? I thought I got question 9 right but not so. It ask for tens and I returned in 10s. It asked for hundreds and I returned in 100s. Same for 1000s. I thought I followed the instructions perfectly. The following pages were weird as well. I took it to my school principal and tried to explain to her that this test was fucked up and should not be mandatory. She replied that very important educated people in Sacramento approved this test so it has to be right. What do you think? How much time it takes to dress in the morning and shower. Estimate or Exact? What if you live in a 2 bedroom house with 9 other siblings. Anyway I failed this class. It was going to drive me insane to get over 90s. The educators thought something was wrong with me when I started pointing out errors. Look at question 7, They gave me that right but now that I look at it again I think it should be 900. Wouldn't 60 round off to 100 and make 800 a 900? Shouldn't I of rounded to the lead digit which would be a final 900? Please help me. What about the average person on this site. Could they get 83 the first time around? |

Re: Can You Pass This Los Angeles Unified School District Math Assessment Exam?
I can say, without a doubt, this is one of the most retarded "mathematics" tests I have ever seen. Given that the last time I did gradeschool maths was 30 years ago, when maths was maths, not this fucking bullshit. The first three questions aren't mathematics. They are at best "general knowledge" questions. Question 4 is getting closer to being mathematics, but again still falls into general knowledge. Questions 5-13 are standard rounding questions... but rounding of such large numbers in mathematics is very rarely practical or useful, or demonstrative of any real mathematical ability. So frankly, calling this a "maths" test is like calling a politician "honest". |

Re: Can You Pass This Los Angeles Unified School District Math Assessment Exam?
They had several test like this, I took like this for assessment and several had problems. The school administrators will not agree that the first 3 questions are kooky and do not belong here. Since it is approved by the State of California it has to be right. The average student is an idiot so they don't see anything odd. But teachers don't see anything odd either. So I end up being a trouble maker. |
