Xenophobic Attacks in South Africa, May 11-26, 2008 (15 Photos)
Xenophobic attacks began in Alexandra, Johannesburg, on May 11, 2008, and spread to at least 135 locations before the main wave ended May 26. Foreign nationals from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Somalia and other countries were targeted in Gauteng and later in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Cape Town. The violence killed 62 people, including 21 South Africans, and injured thousands. Estimates of the number displaced ranged from about 90,000 to more than 100,000, including people who fled South Africa and those displaced within the country. More than 30 additional deaths were reported in xenophobic violence between June and November 2008. Photographs from the unrest show armed mobs carrying sticks and blades, police firing shotguns, residents fleeing, burning shacks and displaced people sheltering in tents. One graphic photograph shows a man on fire as police stand nearby. Other photographs document Zimbabwean migrants crossing near Musina and a crowd outside an asylum office in June 2008. |

Should just shoot them all, it's not like the world is going to miss a few million dead african law breaking bums. That could be the theme for the next mega hit tv show Survivor Africa.

One of the main complaints as I have heard about the United States when it comes to Mexican immigrants are that they are taking away jobs. Along that line, I was also pointing out the second portion of your post where it shows the human smuggler as they call it. Something that happens in the States as well. I'm not saying that Americans have been going around dealing mob justice to illegal immigrants. But it's not as though people here in the states haven't shown the capacity to do so. I feel like you guys must be joking about not seeing these similarities. |
