US Marines in Pacific Island Combat Footage, 1944-45
U.S. Marine combat camera footage from a Pacific island campaign in 1944 or 1945 shows Marines advancing through scrub and smoke near cave positions. One Marine fires into a cloud of white smoke while another watches. Later views show shattered or burned vegetation and a dead soldier lying face-up in the dirt. His uniform appears consistent with that of a Japanese soldier. Another Marine crouches over a prone body near a cave entrance. |
