Tear of Grief: Zurab Tsereteli's 2006 9/11 Memorial in Bayonne, New Jersey
The Tear of Grief, formally titled "To the Struggle Against World Terrorism," was dedicated in Bayonne, New Jersey, on September 11, 2006. Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli designed the memorial, which was an official gift from the Russian government to the United States. Bill Clinton was the featured speaker at the dedication, five years after the September 11 attacks. The monument is a 100-foot bronze-clad tower divided by a jagged opening, with a 40-foot nickel-surfaced teardrop suspended inside. Its eleven-sided base bears black granite panels engraved with names associated with the 2001 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The memorial stands at Harbor View Park on the former Military Ocean Terminal peninsula, facing New York Harbor. The engraved names were drawn from an outdated list, and about 40 were later removed from official victim lists. Bayonne covered Vladimir Putin's name on two park plaques in 2022. |

What an incredible monument! Not to mention what a beautiful gesture from Russia. The media should have been all over this story, but I guess they're too busy with the fear-mongering.
