Phantom Tram Ride Through Central Amsterdam's Canal Belt
Silent black-and-white footage records a phantom tram ride through central Amsterdam's canal belt. Filmed from the front of a moving tram, the route passes Raadhuisstraat, the rear of the Royal Palace on the Dam, Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, Spui, Singel, Koningsplein and Leidsestraat. It continues by Kerkstraat, Stadhouderskade, Museumbrug, Weteringschans and Weteringcircuit toward the Rijksmuseum area. Passing scenes show electric trams sharing the streets with horse-drawn carts, cyclists, pedestrians and an early motor car. Men stand beside bicycles near the tracks, crowds gather at a tram stop, and tram No. 118 appears carrying a route board marked 1. |

Re: Phantom Tram Ride Through Central Amsterdam's Canal Belt
Hm, interesting effect that had on me. I look at a lot of older pics and footage and this is the first time I've had an overwhelming feeling of sadness knowing that, perhaps, everyone in that recording is not longer alive. Strange that. |
