Guantánamo Bay Detention Facilities: Cells, Camps and Detainees
The detention facilities at U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, included Camp Delta and the Camp Justice military commissions compound. Press-tour photographs show cells, cellblocks, fences, guard towers and recreation areas, along with detainees praying in a fenced yard, playing ball and resting on a cell bunk. Other views show a qibla arrow pointing toward Makkah, a quiet prayer time sign and a Qur'an suspended in a cloth sling against cell mesh. A photograph dated October 23, 2007, shows an Arabic-language Harry Potter book associated with the detention camp library. The collection also includes overgrown chain-link pens and a courtroom-like room displaying a U.S. flag. |
