William Hargrove Questioned in Anna Repkina Killing

William Chase Hargrove was convicted for a second time in June 2025 of murdering Anna Alekseyevna Repkina near Alsea, Oregon, and was resentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Repkina, from Moscow, met Hargrove online and moved to the United States in March 2017 after becoming engaged to him. She was reported as 26 or 27 years old. Hargrove lived in the Corvallis, Oregon area and was also involved with Michele Chavez of Albany, a relationship prosecutors described as a problematic love triangle.

Repkina was found shot once in the back of the head on a remote logging road near Alsea in Benton County on April 17, 2017, the day after Easter. Prosecutors described it as an execution style killing. About $800 was withdrawn from her bank account after her death, and surveillance video showed Hargrove making the withdrawal.

A KFC receipt found among trash near Repkina's body bore the name of an acquaintance of Hargrove and led investigators to him. Deputies arrested Hargrove two days after the body was found. During an April 19, 2017 interview in Benton County, investigators asked where he left his trash and about a shotgun he had borrowed from the friend. Hargrove said he had returned the gun, said the friend was lying if he said otherwise, and ended the interview by asking for a lawyer. Detectives later said Hargrove researched time travel after Repkina's death and sent messages to strangers about going back to keep from losing the woman who should have been his wife.

A Benton County grand jury indicted Hargrove on July 10, 2018, on charges of murder, identity theft and two counts of second degree theft. At trial, the defense said Chavez was responsible. Chavez denied involvement, moved to New York and was not charged.

A Benton County jury found Hargrove guilty of murder, identity theft and theft on November 22, 2019. He was later sentenced to life in prison with a 25 year minimum. In 2023, the Oregon Court of Appeals reversed the murder conviction over a flawed search warrant and improperly collected evidence.

Hargrove was retried in Benton County in the spring of 2025 and testified for the first time, saying another woman he was involved with committed the murder. A jury again convicted him of murder in June 2025. The exact retrial verdict and sentencing dates could not be confirmed.

The video is a police interview-room recording that runs about 52 minutes. It contains the interview itself and opens with a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.
