Vincent Ambrosio Police Interview After the Fairfield Sting Arrest

Vincent M. Ambrosio, arrested at 19 in a Fairfield, Connecticut, sex sting, pleaded guilty in 2016 to three attempted sex offenses and a child pornography offense, receiving a partly suspended 10-year sentence and a separate one-year sentence.

At the sting, Ambrosio was charged with enticing a minor, criminal attempt at first degree sexual assault, and criminal attempt at risk of injury or impairing the morals of a minor. Connecticut Judicial Branch records for docket FBT-CR15-0286772-T in the Bridgeport Judicial District show guilty pleas and guilty findings entered on August 11, 2016, for attempt to commit sexual assault in the second degree, a class B felony, attempt to commit illegal sexual contact with a victim, a class B felony, and attempt to commit enticing a minor by computer, a class D felony. The sexual assault conviction was for the second degree attempt, not the first degree attempt charged at arrest.

Ambrosio was sentenced on November 14, 2016, to 10 years, execution suspended after 30 months, followed by 10 years of probation, with 2 years on the enticing count. Fairfield police had arrested him a second time on May 6, 2016, after obtaining a search and seizure warrant for two cellphones in his possession, adding a charge of possession of child pornography. On separate docket FBT-CR16-0290312-T, he pleaded guilty to illegal possession of child pornography in the third degree, a class D felony, and was sentenced the same day to 1 year.

A first violation of probation on the 2015 docket was disposed of on February 24, 2025. His sentence was revoked, and he received 90 months, execution suspended after 6 months, and 5 years of probation. Separately, Southbury police arrested him on March 25, 2025, over an offense dated August 22, 2024. In Waterbury GA 4, docket U04W-CR25-0513736-S, he was found guilty of possession of child pornography in the third degree, 20 depictions, a class D felony, and was sentenced on April 16, 2025, to 1 year in jail. That is the most recent entry in the state's conviction records.

The 2015 operation was set up at a Fairfield house by former NBC correspondent Chris Hansen, known for the "To Catch a Predator" segments on Dateline NBC, for a new program called "Hansen vs. Predator." It ran with the cooperation of the Fairfield Police Department, whose chief was Gary MacNamara, and Bridgeport State's Attorney John Smriga. Fairfield University students posed online as a 12 year old girl and a 13 year old boy. The operation began on a Thursday and continued through the following weekend. Ten men, ranging in age from 19 to 64, came to the house expecting to meet a minor for sex and were arrested. Ambrosio, the youngest, was arrested on October 3, 2015.

Ambrosio was living with his parents in Wappingers Falls, New York, in the fall of 2015, and Connecticut court records give his birth year as 1996. During the interview, he said he was an only child, helped care for his grandfather and was being treated for bipolar depression, with his medication adjusted over the previous month to six weeks. He said he met the decoy on Whisper before the conversation moved to Kik. He said the decoy called herself Jenna and sent selfies, and that he disclosed his real age, introduced the sexual talk and discussed having intercourse. He said he tried to back out and gave a reason he could not come, but she kept persisting. He said he had originally wanted to go through with it but changed his mind and knew it would be inappropriate.

The recording shows a police interview after the arrest, not the televised confrontation at the house. At the police department, a detective assigned to sex crimes had Ambrosio initial a form line by line, told him that he was an adult at 19 and that his parents would not be contacted unless he wanted them to be, and invited him to speak before questioning began. Ambrosio opened by saying his life was a mess. The detective asked how he met the decoy, what he believed her age to be, his usernames, when the conversation became sexual and what he intended when he drove to the house.

The video is an approximately 33-minute police interview-room recording. It presents the interview itself, without narration or a presenter.
