Olivia Clendenin Questioned in Shooting of Daniel Johnson

Olivia Clendenin, of Franklin, Ohio, was sentenced to 16 to 20 years in prison on March 26, 2026, after a Warren County jury convicted her of attempted murder in a shooting that wounded party guest Daniel Johnson.

The jury also found Clendenin guilty of two counts of felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, with firearm specifications. The verdict was made public at the start of February 2026. The prosecutor's office did not proceed with the counts of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, using weapons while intoxicated and operating a vehicle under the influence. At sentencing Thursday, March 26, before Common Pleas Judge Robert Peeler, Johnson said, "The defendant was attempting to shoot at someone else, and I was the one who ended up being shot," and said he is still healing and lives with chronic discomfort. Clendenin said she was very glad he was well after what he had been through and wished him the best.

Clendenin, 28 at the time of the shooting and 29 at trial, was involved with her estranged husband and a boyfriend. The Clearcreek Township police chief said she might be divorcing her husband. Warren County Prosecutor David P. Fornshell said each man learned of her relationship with the other earlier on the evening of December 31, 2024. About 5 a.m. on January 1, 2025, Clearcreek Township police were sent to a house in the 5500 block of Dearth Road for a reported drive-by shooting after a New Year's Eve party. Police said Clendenin was angry that the men were spending time together there; the chief described a "three-way argument" at the party.

Prosecutors said she tried and failed to persuade her husband to leave, then returned with a .40 caliber handgun and fired eight shots. Police Lt. Wallace Stacy said she drove through the front yard and fired toward the house, where people were inside and outside; the chief said she fired as she passed the front door. One shot struck Johnson in the abdomen while he was on the porch. He was neither her husband nor her boyfriend, and police said he had not argued with her. Fornshell said Johnson "had simply been invited to a New Year's Eve party and found himself in the middle of Clendenin's barrage of gunfire." Johnson had surgery and was expected to recover.

Clendenin drove off in her mother's 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and crashed in the 3800 block of McLean Road in Franklin Township, hitting a guardrail and a utility pole at a curve. The Warren County Sheriff's Office said she had minor injuries and cited her for misdemeanor operating a vehicle under the influence.

Clendenin was arrested after the crash. The recording shows her questioned by police after her arrest. Her husband told police at the time that he believed she may have been the shooter. At an arraignment Friday, January 3, 2025, in Warren County Municipal Court, she pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and a misdemeanor count of using weapons while intoxicated. Judge Gary Loxley set bail at $200,000, with electronic home detention and no firearms if she posted it.

A grand jury then indicted her on those counts plus a second count of felonious assault and the misdemeanor operating-a-vehicle charge. She pleaded not guilty again on February 4, 2025, before Judge Peeler.
