Ohio Woman Sentenced in Daughter's Drug Death
Bethoney Miller-Williams was sentenced in Cincinnati, Ohio, to six to nine years in prison after pleading guilty in the fentanyl and xylazine death of her 2-year-old daughter, Ah'Layla Bradley. Police and emergency crews found Ah'Layla unresponsive on July 29, 2024, at an apartment on Bracken Woods Lane in Cincinnati's Westwood neighborhood. She was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital and pronounced dead. Other adults were in the apartment that day. The child's father did not live there. The Hamilton County Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide on September 17, 2024, finding that Ah'Layla died of exposure to fentanyl and xylazine. Toxicology showed what prosecutors described as extremely lethal concentrations in her blood. Prosecutors said Miller-Williams found Ah'Layla playing with fentanyl powder, placed her in a crib and went to sleep instead of seeking help. They said the child likely died soon after ingesting it. Prosecutors said Miller-Williams woke around 9 p.m., waited about two hours before calling 911 and reported that she had just found the child not breathing. They also said she disposed of the fentanyl before police arrived. Court documents alleged that she put Ah'Layla at risk by facilitating an environment that exposed her to the lethal effects of fentanyl and xylazine. The toxicology results came back in September 2024, about seven weeks after the death. A warrant was issued for Miller-Williams alone on September 18. Cincinnati police and the department's fugitive apprehension unit arrested her on September 19, 2024. Detectives interviewed her before she was booked into the Hamilton County Justice Center that morning. At the end of the interview, she was told she was charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering children. Miller-Williams was 21 when arrested. At her first court appearance on September 20, 2024, a judge set bond at $150,000. She pleaded guilty in June 2025 to involuntary manslaughter, endangering children, and tampering with evidence. Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Goering sentenced her on July 9, 2025, when she was 22, to a minimum of six years and a maximum of nine years in prison. Ah'Layla's father wrote in a sentencing statement, "Now we live every day with a hole in our hearts." No appeal has been reported. The video is a Cincinnati Police Department interview-room recording that runs about 69 minutes. It shows the interview conducted before Miller-Williams was booked and contains no narration or presenter.
