Michael Wasielewski Questioned in Sister's Death

Michael Wasielewski, 64, was charged with first-degree intentional homicide with use of a dangerous weapon in the shooting death of his 68-year-old sister in Cudahy, Wisconsin.

The siblings lived in a home on Underwood Avenue near Hately Avenue. Shortly after 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020, police received a 911 call about a person armed with a shotgun there. According to the criminal complaint, Wasielewski had phoned his brother and said he had "snapped and shot the victim." He also said he could not go to prison and planned to shoot himself. His brother went to the house, and the brother's girlfriend called 911.

Police found Wasielewski sitting in a rocking chair on the back porch while his brother urged him to stay calm. Officers found his sister dead inside and described the scene as "horrific." A shotgun was on a couch. The autopsy found that she suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Police took Wasielewski into custody at the home. As officers escorted him to a squad car, he told his brother, "Thanks, I'm going to prison now. I could have handled it," and said he "couldn't take it anymore." He told officers, "She drove me crazy." Police said they were investigating the death as a homicide and were not seeking any other suspects. Cudahy police were assisted by the St. Francis and South Milwaukee police departments, the Wisconsin State Crime Lab and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

In an interview described by prosecutors, Wasielewski said tension in the household had been building and his sister nagged him often. He said that on the day of the shooting she complained about the air conditioning, that he "got fed up," and that he shot her "two or three times."

At his initial appearance in Milwaukee County on August 14, 2020, a competency examination was ordered and cash bond was set at $100,000. The doctor's report was due back on September 29, 2020.

The charge is an accusation, and Wasielewski is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. As of November 1, 2026, no plea, verdict, finding or sentence after the August 2020 competency order has been confirmed in published reports, and the outcome of the case is unknown.
