Michael Thomas Christopher Stephen Rafferty, 28, was found guilty on May 11, 2012, of the first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual assault of Victoria Elizabeth Marie Stafford, an eight-year-old known as Tori, who was taken from outside her school in Woodstock, Ontario, on April 8, 2009. He was sentenced on May 15, 2012, to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years.

Tori left Oliver Stephens Public School at about 3:30 p.m. and was recorded on camera at 3:32 p.m. walking with Terri-Lynne McClintic, then 18, who had lured her with the promise of a puppy. The child was driven away, raped and killed. An autopsy found she died of repeated blows to the head with a claw hammer and had 16 broken ribs and lacerations to her liver.

Rafferty was charged with first-degree murder on May 20, 2009, the day McClintic was charged as an accessory. Her charge was raised to first-degree murder and unlawful confinement on May 28. Tori's body was found on July 19, 2009, in a field near Mount Forest, Ontario, more than three months after she disappeared.

McClintic pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on April 30, 2010, and was sentenced on May 19, 2010, to life with no parole for 25 years. A publication ban on her plea was lifted on December 9, 2010.

Rafferty's trial opened on March 5, 2012. Police interviewed him during the investigation. He appealed on July 26, 2012, and the Ontario Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal on October 24, 2016, the day it was heard.
