Megan M. Danielczak was sentenced to two years in prison and six years of extended supervision after pleading no contest to soliciting the killing of her husband in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, in a recorded plot in which no one was harmed.

Danielczak and her husband, Nicholas Danielczak, lived with their children in Rhinelander, a city in Oneida County in northern Wisconsin. She was 27 at the time and worked in Tomahawk, to the south. Her husband had a life insurance policy through his employer naming her as beneficiary. According to the criminal complaint, she wanted a divorce but did not believe she could afford to live independently, saying her husband had a better job and would "take everything away from her."

On February 6, 2018, Rhinelander police detectives learned from a confidential informant that Danielczak was looking for someone to kill her husband. Investigators arranged a controlled meeting. On February 14, she met a man she believed was a hired killer in a parking lot on Lincoln Street in Rhinelander. He was an undercover agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, and the agent and informant recorded the meeting.

Danielczak handed over three gold rings and $402 in cash, paid as $100 and then another $302, along with a list of information the informant had requested. The remaining $4,500 was to be paid after her husband's death from the proceeds of selling his truck. She said she had no preference about how he was killed but preferred that it not be "gory." When the agent told her there was no backing out, she said she would not reconsider. That evening, she texted the informant about her children's safety.

At about noon on February 15, detectives went to Danielczak's workplace in Tomahawk with assistance from Tomahawk police and told her that her husband was dead. She said she did not know anyone who would want to harm him. After her arrest and an advisement of her rights, she admitted trying to hire someone to kill her husband. Nicholas Danielczak was never harmed and was told about the plan. At sentencing, he said he had constantly questioned the value of his life since learning what she had done and asked, "Did you ever think about what our children's lives would be like with both of their parents gone?"

Danielczak was charged in Oneida County with soliciting first-degree intentional homicide, a Class F felony carrying more than 12 years, with a domestic abuse modifier. She was held in the Oneida County Jail, appeared initially on February 16, 2018, and was released after posting a $15,000 cash bond. She was bound over for trial after a preliminary hearing set for February 23, 2018, and pleaded no contest in February 2019. On May 2, 2019, Oneida County Circuit Judge Patrick O'Melia sentenced Danielczak, then 28, to two years in prison followed by six years of extended supervision, to be served at Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Fond du Lac. She was not convicted of attempted murder, and no one was killed. No appeal or later development has been publicly reported.
