Kennon Nicholas Farrow Questioned in Carla Williams' Death
Kennon Nicholas Farrow was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on January 25, 2024, for murdering his former girlfriend, Carla Williams, at a gym in Pensacola, Florida. Farrow, then 41, had pleaded guilty on December 20, 2023, to all three counts against him; the murder count carried a mandatory life sentence. Circuit Judge John Simon also sentenced him to time served for violating an injunction and 15 years for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, to be served consecutively. During 2023, the defense pursued an insanity claim, and Farrow's sanity was examined. After a hearing on December 13, 2023, Simon ruled on December 18 that he was competent to stand trial. Williams' brother and sister and several of her students spoke at sentencing. A psychologist called by the defense testified about Farrow's mental health, and his mother told the court the system had failed. Simon said the Florida Department of Corrections would conduct its own psychological evaluation. Williams, 48, was an associate math professor at Pensacola State College in Pensacola, where she had worked for more than 24 years, and a former basketball player at the college. Shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, Farrow walked into Pensacola Fitness on North Ninth Avenue, where she was working out, and fired several shots at her. She was struck several times and died of her injuries. Several other people were inside the gym; no one else was hurt. Farrow was 39 at the time of the shooting. Police said he and Williams had dated. In February 2022, he was arrested, accused of strangling her, and released on $25,000 bond. In March 2022, a court granted Williams a temporary restraining order against him. Florida Department of Corrections records show he served prison time from 2012 to 2015 for aggravated assault with a weapon and aggravated stalking in Escambia County. Farrow fled after the shooting, and officers searched through the day. Police said he might be driving a gray Mercedes-Benz and later that he might have switched to a small blue Nissan SUV. That night, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, together with the Pensacola Police Department, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway Patrol, arrested him without incident in a traffic stop near Nine Mile Road and Beulah Road. He was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and denied bond at his first court appearance on May 26. On June 21, 2022, an Escambia County grand jury indicted him on first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm, violation of an injunction against domestic violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In his police interview after the arrest, Farrow spoke with two detectives in an interview room. After being read his rights, he said he loved Williams and felt bad about what happened. The detectives asked about the restraining order, his earlier record and the phone calls he made early that morning. Near the end, he asked whether he could get bond and was told he would be taken to jail. As of October 2026, state prison records list Farrow at Franklin Correctional Institution, serving a life sentence.
