Jessica Lynn Long Questioned in Wayne Barlow Killing

Jessica Lynn Long received an agreed 30-year prison sentence on December 16, 2025, in Marion County, Florida, after cooperating with prosecutors and testifying against Michael Montgomery Jr. in the killing of Wayne Barlow. Florida Department of Corrections records list her offense of conviction as second-degree murder, described as "dangerous act," rather than first-degree murder.

A Marion County jury found Montgomery guilty of first-degree murder with a firearm, fleeing or eluding law enforcement, driving while license suspended or revoked, and resisting a law enforcement officer. He was sentenced to life in prison on December 11, 2025. Florida Department of Corrections records also list a 15-year term for the fleeing count.

Long was 37 when arrested and was described as homeless in the Ocala area. Montgomery, described as her companion, was 47 when arrested. Barlow was 40. His surname appeared as Barlowe in one local report, while the State Attorney's Office and most reports used Barlow.

On June 27, 2023, a caller reported a body beside NW 77th Terrace near West Highway 326 in Marion County. The arrest affidavit said Barlow died of a gunshot wound to the head and had evidence of strangulation and blunt force trauma. Investigators said Long and Barlow arranged by text message to meet for a sexual encounter for which he paid $80 through Cash App. Prosecutors said the payment signaled Montgomery, who was in the car, to carry out a plan to steal Barlow's vehicle. Barlow resisted and a fight followed. The affidavit quoted Long as saying, "Make sure he's dead."

Within a day or two of the killing, officers spotted Barlow's stolen gray Hyundai on U.S. Highway 441. The driver fled, and the car was later abandoned. Two people ran into woods. Deputies found Montgomery hiding in water and Long concealed in a tree, according to one report. Text messages between Long and Barlow, along with a firearm and items bearing Barlow's name, tied the pair to the killing.

During her recorded police interrogation, Long initially said she did not remember the events and had brain damage from a past car accident. She later said she was present. The date of the interview was not given.

Long and Montgomery were publicly charged on February 21, 2024, with murder while engaged in a robbery and were held without bond. Long later agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for the 30-year sentence. Details of her plea hearing were not given.

The video is an interview-room recording of Long's police interrogation and runs about 87 minutes. It presents the interview itself, preceded by a short narrated introduction naming the people involved.
